      [...] The thermometer was reading 7 degrees low, apparently due to poor packing and knocking around during shipping. I have to force it apart to try to re-calibrate myself. If I have to do this again a year from now the cheap plastic cover will likely break. Styrene is not UV stable to be exposed to sunlight and will haze or get brittle, other plastics would be more suitable for outdoor use. The temperature element is exposed and unprotected on the rear of the device, and does not promise to be durable or consistent over use. I am going to try to build some sort of protection for the element from rain/ice, etc. Probably adequate for warmer states, but not well designed for winter conditions.

      Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
